MY DADDY’S LEGACY

Sparks/Mo/Moss/Bean

Most people say he was no account,

They said in this life he would never amount

To a thing…..And I guess he never did.

But they never saw what he gave to this kid.

A life without fences and love with no strings.

How could they say…. he didn’t leave me a thing?

We didn’t have much in wordly wealth,

But we had our love and we had our health.

And we had respect for all God’s living things.

Corn bread, taters, and beans on our plate

Most time we raised the things we ate,

Seemed to me, we was living like kings.

(chorus)

My daddy left me these country roads,

The rivers and streams and the places they go.

He left me all these mountains valleys and trees.

A blanket of stars to sleep out under,

A loving heart filled with wonder.

And that’s just part of my daddy’s legacy

Who gave them the right to measure success,

When all of us here are just doing the best that we can,

They just don’t understand,

They measure with money what he measured with love

He lived in a world they never dreamed of.

Where the love of a dollar, ain’t the measure of a man.

(chorus)

My daddy left me these country roads,

The rivers and streams and the places they go.

He left me all these mountains valleys and trees.

A blanket of stars to sleep out under,

A loving heart filled with wonder.

And that’s just part of my daddy’s legacy

I had the chance of what to choose,

Just what I’d keep, and what I’d lose,

His love of life, is what I’ve saved.

The values that he’s given me,

Is what I want my son to see.

To teach him about my daddy’s legacy.

(chorus 2X)

My daddy left me these country roads,

The rivers and streams and the places they go.

He left me all these mountains valleys and trees.

A blanket of stars to sleep out under,

A loving heart filled with wonder.

And that’s just part of my daddy’s legacy
